Cup Distilled white vinegar  
Cup Water  
1/2 Cup Sugar  
/4 Cup Salt  
−1/2 Teaspoon Whole allspice  
Piece Cinnamon stick −; (3" long)  
−1/2 Teaspoon Celery seeds  
−1/2 Teaspoon Mustard seeds  
−1/2 Teaspoon Whole black pepper corns  
3 1/2 Other Carbohydrates  
Place all of the ingredients in a nonreactive saucepan, over high heat.  
Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce heat to medium and simmer for 30  
minutes. Remove from the heat and cool completely. Strain the liquid and  
store in an airtight container. This recipe yields about 1 quart.
