The winds, the clouds, the moon, the sun, apart  
In different stations; and you there might view  
The stars that gem the still-revolving heaven,  
And, under them, the vast expanse of air,  
In which, with outstretch'd wings, the long-beak'd bird  
Winnow'd the gale, as if instinct with life.  
Around the shield the waves of ocean flow'd,
